Tongariro Alpine Crossing

For Matt’s birthday in November we both took a day off work to have a long weekend at the Tongariro National Park. We stayed at a great air BnB in Owhango and set off to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing on Friday morning. The walk itself was not that challenging, the difficult part was dealing with the wind. We walked it in 40kph winds which at the saddle of Red Crater was difficult to keep on our feet. Going in November on a random weekend also meant there were probably no more than 100 people on track with us throughout the day with many sections just by ourselves.

On the second day we did a walk to Taranaki Falls and the Tama Lakes.

We love walks in Alpine environments, the flora and fauna is so unique and different to what we are used to seeing.
